Kombucha

We are now making KOMBUCHA in house! We have one flavor with a decadent smokey, black tea base, and another with a light, fresh green tea flavor.

What is it? Kombucha is a sweet-sour, fermented tea. It is an acidic, slightly carbonated beverage. It has been around for more than 2,000 years. The rise in commercial popularity has brought it to the forefront in the U.S. from places like Russia and Germany. It is made with sugar, tea and a SCOBY: Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast.

Additionally…..Kombucha Tea has been described as either a wine that tastes like a delicious tea or a unusual tea that tastes like a rare wine. I love, love Chateau d’Yquem. For a lot less money, calories and alcohol content this fills that void on a more regular basis! When you drink it, take a few moments to slow down, enjoy the play on your tongue from the forward sweet notes to its evanescent bubbly and astringent properties. What does it do? There are limited amounts of research on the beverage since there isn’t much money in doing so. Regardless of that, it does have over 2,000 years of tradition with a loyal following. What we do know is that it contains varying quantities of B-vitamins, antioxidant, probiotics and glucaric acids. Debatably it is said to detoxify because it is rich in enzymes and bacterial acids your body produces and uses to reduce your pancreatic load and ease the burden on your liver. There is anecdotal history touting benefits like cancer fighting, arthritis and other degenerative disease fighting abilities. Some claim it can restore hair color, thicken hair, lengthen life span, lower cholesterol and improve gut health. We can’t speak to that. Each person is different. We also believe that you can drink and eat healthy food in an unhealthy way. So moderation is key here as in everything! Stop in and get some or order ahead to ensure availability.
